General syllabuses for doctoral students
Each subject that has degree-awarding powers at doctoral level has a general syllabus that must be followed during the programme. The courses and number of credits included in a doctoral (third-cycle) degree must comply with general syllabus for the subject to which the doctoral student was admitted. The general syllabus also states the entry requirements when applying for a doctoral studentship.

The Department of Gender Studies at Södertörn University announces the following PhD course to be taught in November and December 2025.
The course presents key concepts and theoretical approaches related to gender and sexuality. The course aims to provide participants with an advanced introduction to some of the most prominent theorists and positions in feminist and queer theory, with a particular focus on the significance of how these have developed in a range of historical, cultural, social and geopolitical contexts. The course includes in-depth studies of concepts and theoretical perspectives relevant to the dissertation topic.
The course is structured around four thematic sessions:
- Norms and the normal,
- Bodies and embodiment,
- Borders, movement, transgression,
- Materiality and capitalism.
Course coordinator: Linn J Sandberg, Associate professor in Gender Studies, Södertörn University.
Teachers:
Linn J Sandberg, Associate Professor Gender Studies, Södertörn University. PhD in Gender Studies, Linköping university. Specialist in feminist and queer approaches to sexuality and embodiment. Currently involved in two research projects, one on queer aging futures and another on sexual health, digital media and audio-based erotica.
Teresa Kulawik, Professor in Gender Studies, Södertörn University. PhD from the Free University in Berlin. Specialist in Comparative gender studies; in current research she explores intersections of body/bio-politics, citizenship, knowledge regimes; migration, borderlands of post/decolonial and postsocialist scholarship.
Course assessment: The course requires active participation in seminars, a short written assignment after each seminar, an oral presentation in the last seminar and a final written essay.
Teaching format: The course will be delivered through five seminars and will be given on Södertörn university campus, Stockholm, Sweden.

Language: The course will be taught in English, final written papers can be submitted in Swedish or English.
Entry requirements: The course is open to PhD students, with priority given to those enrolled in Gender Studies programs. Basic familiarity with feminist theory is expected.
