The iPad as a Communication Bridge for Developing Swedish Language Skills in Interaction Between Students and Teachers in Special Needs Education

The project was funded by the Erik Wellander Foundation. It was interdisciplinary and documented successful communication between teachers and students in what was then known as the special school system, with the aim of developing better tools for documenting communication strategies and progression in the language development of students in special education.

The project also made visible how students with communication difficulties used various digital resources to communicate, and how this interacted with the students’ willingness to communicate.

The project contributed knowledge about schooling and language education in a specific context where communication—or the very meaning of communicating—can be particularly challenging.
