Social work
Research in social work at Södertörn University aims to contribute to knowledge-based social work that promotes social change, equal living conditions and the realisation of people’s potential and resources.
Our research is conducted in a multicultural, interdisciplinary and predominantly urban context, and often in close collaboration with the wider society. Much of our research is participant-oriented, drawing on people’s experiences and the conditions of social practice.
Key concepts and perspectives in our research include the organisation of social work and welfare, social movements and social mobilisation, critical preventive social work, and social sustainability. In line with the International Federation of Social Workers’ global definition, central principles of social work are human rights, social justice, the best interests of the child, collective responsibility and respect for diversities and these principles underpin our research.
