Student rights and obligations

“Rights and obligations – rules for studying at first and second-cycle level at Södertörn University” is a local set of rules that include decisions about the relationship between students and the university.

The purpose of these rules is that all students at Södertörn University will be treated equally and your rights and obligations as a student are easily understandable.

Safety and security

Work on security at Södertörn University aims to create a safe and secure environment for everyone. The university works continually on preventing and managing unwanted incidents such as fire, burglary, violence and threats.

Responsibility for security at Södertörn University follows the standard order at the university. The vice-chancellor has overarching responsibility for security at the university, while each head of school has overall responsibility for the students at their academic school. The head of your academic school is responsible for your work environment as a student.

Unwanted events such as fire, burglary/theft, violence and threats can often be prevented. Risk awareness among staff and students is therefore the key to a safe and secure university. If you discover something that may affect safety at the university, you must immediately report this to your academic school, e.g. your course coordinator, study guidance counsellor or to the student safety representative. You can also talk to the students’ union or the head of security.

There are some things that you must bear in mind, for your own safety and that of others:

• Always take fire alarms seriously.
• Find out where the closest emergency exit is.
• Doors that are marked “Branddörr” must always be closed.
• Do not use the lifts in case of fire or emergency evacuation.
• You may not allow unauthorised persons into the university.
