Tuition fees may be refunded in full, minus any bank charges, in specific circumstances. Södertörn University will only provide refunds after an application for a refund has been received. Decisions about refunds are made by the director of Student Support Services. Money is always reimbursed to the same account from which the tuition fees were paid to Södertörn University.
Tuition fees are only refunded in the following circumstances:
Denial of residence permit
If you have paid your tuition fees but are then denied a residence permit in Sweden and thus cannot complete the admissions procedure, you are entitled to a full refund minus any bank charges.
Change in migration status
According to section five of the Swedish Ordinance on application fees and tuition fees for higher education, following a change in your migration status you should submit documents that support your request to be exempted from payment. Information is available at www.universityadmissions.se.
If your migration status changes after you have paid your tuition fees, you will receive a refund once the change is registered in the admissions system. In this case, you are entitled to a tuition fee refund for the remainder of the course/programme, minus any bank charges. The important date for Södertörn University is the date on which University Admissions receives the decision of the Swedish Migration Agency, not the date of the decision itself.
In cases of serious illness or the death of a student, a student’s partner or a close family member, it is possible to apply for a tuition fee refund for a semester that has already begun.
If you are on a programme and have been allowed to transfer credits from courses at another higher education institution to your programme at Södertörn University, you are entitled to a tuition fee refund, minus any bank charges, that is equivalent to the transferred credits. You should apply for the tuition fee refund before the end of the semester.
