Reinventing the suburb in fragmented landscapes
Stockholm is growing and the aim is to become Europe's most attractive region for investors, residents and visitors. The city wants to be sustainable from both a social, economic and ecological perspective. At the same time, there are great social, economic and political tensions.
Wanting to create a good Stockholm for all, Södertörn University started in autumn 2016 the research project "Reinventing the suburb in fragmented landscapes". The project will last for three years and be implemented together with the business sector.
The goal of the project is to create favorable conditions for the planning of residential areas that are good for people and at the same time creates conditions for socially and economically sustainable growth and entrepreneurship.
Specifically, it is about factors such as infrastructure, including for instance access to commuter trains and pharmacy, how to build to facilitate contact between neighbors and between different groups of people and how to create good conditions for industry and the business sector. Researchers of the field normally speak of various forms of capital: social, organizational, diversity and space. In the project, researchers will look at how these different forms of capital interact, how to transform tensions into creative solutions.
