New Developments in the Politics and International Relations of Post-Soviet Central Asia
The Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES) at Södertörn is pleased to announce an interdisciplinary workshop on New Developments in the Politics and International Relations of Post-Soviet Central Asia.
Topics to be considered will include:
- The rights and position of ethnic minorities, the architecture of post-Soviet neo-nationalism, political processes from the democratization of society to the modernization of authoritarianism in the countries of the Central Asian region.
- Domestic and foreign policy, modern challenges and security threats. The Soviet legacy on borders demarcation in the context of the border and inter-ethnic contradictions in Central Asia. Socio-economic and migration processes in the region.
- Central Asia and the Russian ideology of Eurasianism towards neo-Eurasianism in the context of the regional bloc "EurAsEC" and the military-political bloc "CSTO".
- China and its “New Economic Belt - Reviving the Silk Road” and “SCO”, as mechanisms and tools of influence on the countries of Central Eurasia within the “Big Game”.
- EU strategy in Central Asia on route to renewal from 2019: development prospects and expectations.
