Teaching Democratic Participation in the Nordics and Beyond

The workshop Teaching Democratic Participation in the Nordics and Beyond: Civic Communication Practices in Secondary School brings together researchers and teachers in exploring research related to civic participation, and classroom practices promoting the democratic mission of the school.

The primary purpose of the workshop is to explore the current state of the art in research related to civic participation in secondary education in the Nordic/Baltic Sea region, and, more specifically, to classroom practices promoting the democratic mission of the school.

The workshop brings together researchers exploring civic education and democracy teaching, with representatives of teachers’ associations for primary language education , to compare experiences and discuss usable best practices. A subsidiary aim is to establish a Nordic and Baltic network of researchers and teachers’ organisations on this theme.

The workshop is arranged with generous funding from ReNEW and NordForsk, Södertörn University, and the Nordic Rhetoric Association.
