War in Ukraine: Academic Perceptions
Welcome to a seminar with Professor Sergiy Kurbatov, who will talk about the situation in Ukrainian academia after the beginning of Russian aggression. He has actively mobilised academia during the war in Ukraine and worldwide.
Sergiy will talk about the repercussions of the war on the national level, institutional level (education with particular stress on higher education) and above all, from a personal point of view. Sergiy has lived in Kyiv since the beginning of the war and will share his experience, and he has written about this, for example, in the Baltic Worlds.

About the speaker:
Sergiy Kurbatov, PhD is a professor at the Department of Sociology at Kyiv National Economic University and affiliated researcher at IRES, Uppsala University. Also, Sergiy is an advisor to the Presidium of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine. His academic interests include quality assurance in higher education, historical transformations of universities, and research of history through textbooks. He has also been presenting earlier at Södertörn University and was partaking in the organisation team when BEEGS made its, by now, famous study visit to Kyiv and Crimea in 2012. Moreover, he is a talented haiku poet, having taken part in several world championships.
