Alterity, Responsibility, and Time: Levinas and Modern Jewish Philosophy

Seminar with introductory lecture and text discussion by Dr. Yael Lin, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and Achva Academic College

Speaker: Dr. Yael Lin, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and Achva Academic College.

The seminar includes an introductory lecture by Dr. Yael Lin presenting Emmanuel Levinas's key concepts of alterity and responsibility within the context of a broader Jewish perspective, followed by a discussion centered on Levinas's view of time, by examining an excerpt from his essay "Diachrony and Representation."

Dr. Yael Lin teaches at both Ben-Gurion University and Achva Academic College, and is the pedagogical consultant for the Department of Learning Technologies at Ben-Gurion University. She is the author of The Intersubjectivity of Time: Levinas and Infinite Responsibility (Duquesne University Press, 2013), Time and Human Existence: Aristotle, Bergson, Heidegger, Levinas (Resling Publishing, forthcoming), and the editor of Levinas Faces Biblical Figures (Lexington Books, 2014).
