Tuula Juvonen (Tampere University) and Lotta Kähkönen (University of Lapland) present the research project Affective Activism: Sites of Queer and Trans World-Making
University lecturers Tuula Juvonen (Tampere University) and Lotta Kähkönen (University of Lapland) will discuss the Finnish Research Council–funded project Affective Activism: Sites of Queer and Trans World-Making (2021–2025) and share key insights developed over the course of the research. They will also discuss their recently published volume, Toivoa, vimmaa ja vastarintaa. Kirjoituksia queer- ja transaktivismista [Hope, Fury, and Resistance: Writings on Queer and Trans Activism] (2025), co-edited with Varpu Alasuutari. The discussion explores how academic research can be meaningfully intertwined with activist practice and elaborates on the role of affect in activism and world-making within queer and trans communities. They also examine the various forms of resistance and future trajectories that emerge through these affective practices.
