My main research areas are ecology and natural resource management.

Currently, my research deals with:

  • Forest biodiversity in the Baltic Sea region, including studies on forest succession, habitat closure and landscape ecology: relationships between landscape configuration and diversity and functional composition in local plant communities.
  • Links between biodiversity, ecological values, and well-being in urban areas: participatory methods of urban green planning; activating youth in sustainability and planning of living environments.
  • Natural resource management in rural Africa: environmental and societal effects of development interventions; community-based ecotourism and socio-environmental justice.
  • Ecosystem effects of toxic substances produced by marine algae.
