The Study Support Unit

The Study Support Unit (Studieverkstan) is located in the university library (entrance floor) and is available to all Södertörn University students of all subjects and at all levels of study. In the Study Support Unit we offer students support with Swedish, English and oratory skills. In addition, you can receive support with for example writing and speaking skills or study techniques. You can book individual and/or group tutorials but you are also welcome to come along to the weekly drop-in sessions. The Study Support Unit also provides mini-lectures on academic writing.

The Study Support Unit can help you with:

  • planning, drafting and editing texts
  • essay writing (from Bachelor’s/first cycle to Master’s/second cycle level)
  • the planning and delivery of spoken reports, presentations and speeches / defending a paper
  • finding solutions for feeling anxious about public speaking, experiencing writer’s
block and reading and writing difficulties
  • language use and academic writing conventions
  • interpreting assignment questions and feedback from lecturers on for example take-home
  • reading/note-taking skills and issues related to exam preparation

From help to self-help

The objective of the Study Support Unit is to enable you to help yourself. As such, we don’t do your work for you. Instead, our aim is to point you in the right direction by encouraging you to work towards finding solutions for the problem(s) you encountered yourself. Therefore, we do not simply correct written texts but we can highlight which aspects of your text require attention when discussing your work with you. For normal tutorials we only read texts which consist of a maximum of 3 pages. However, if you have booked an essay tutorial, longer texts can be focused on.
