Theories and methods in media and communication, focusing on celebrity
This course provides you with advanced knowledge of celebrity cultures as current and historical phenomena, as well as their relationship to developments in the media. You will contextualise and historicise celebrity cultures in relation to social and cultural processes and learn a range of media and communication theories, reflecting on how these can be understood from different perspectives. Issues related to these theories and methods will be independently and critically discussed in relation to research in the field, improving your nuanced and critical thinking skills.
This course is largely run as seminars and independent study. It is examined via written essay, oral presentations and participation in the seminars.
