This course engages with the connections between the media and total institutions such as prisons, refugee camps and detention centres. It draws attention to how their architecture comprises media in their own right, enabling some forms of communication while constraining others. It also focuses on the different forms of media-related work carried out in these places, what types of media use are allowed and how these places are represented in the media.
