On this course, you will examine current tourism phenomena, such as experiential tourism, as well as ones you identify yourself. Traditional and more recent forms of tourism are analysed, as are the way they influence the development of tourist destinations and their organisation. You will use methods such as the scenario technique to investigate tourism trends in a societal context, focusing on new challenges for tourism, such as regulation based on societal demands for sustainability. You will explore global tourism, i.e. how local and global tourism can cooperate on destination marketing, tourism networks, and attraction development.
The course is taught through lectures, group work and seminars, and is assessed on the basis of your seminar participation, a written group report, individual written report, and individual and group oral presentations.
