Entry requirements
Bachelor's degree including 90 credits in Media and Communication Studies as the main field of study or equivalent, and English B or equivalent.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student is able to:
- Summarise and discuss central methods in media and communication studies at an advanced level
- Independently and critically assess methodological questions and develop a research design for a scientific problem in media and communication studies
- Critically reflect upon, contextualise and historicise methods in media and communication studies
- Reflect on what critique means in relation to methods in media and communication studies in a nuanced way
Course content, modules and examinations
This course provides an in-depth introduction to important methods in media and communication studies, including contextualising and historicising different methodological perspectives in media and communication studies. The focus is on the independent and critical use of advanced methods in this research field.

Teaching is conducted through seminars.Examination format
The course is examined through:
- a written report
- active participation in seminars
- oral presentation
Absence from no more than 25% of the seminars can be compensated for through written assignments.
The grading criteria are distributed prior to the start of a course or module.
If a student has a certificate from Södertörn University for compensatory support, the examiner has the right to decide on an adapted examination or alternative form of examination in accordance with Södertörn University's regulations.
