The equivalent of English B and Bachelor's degree including 90 credits in Media Technology or the equivalent.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student is able to:
- apply theoretical concepts and frameworks from design theory in advanced analyses of problems, processes, and artefacts in the domain of media technology
- analyse and discuss their own design work, based on design theory research
- critically discuss scientific texts within the design field and draw their own conclusions based on these texts
- plan and formulate a design-oriented research project including methodological approaches and an analysis and evaluation of the project’s strengths and weaknesses.
Course content, modules and examinations
The course covers design as a scientific domain, its relation to other scientific domains and to theory of science in general, and the different ways in which design knowledge can be conceptualised and shared. Methodological approaches relevant for design science are presented and discussed with a particular focus on research through design as an approach for scientific inquiry. Theoretical frameworks and design qualities as means for valuing and analysing design processes and interactive artifacts are discussed and used. As part of the course, an individual design-oriented research project plan is formulated and evaluated.
