Entry requirements
The equivalent of English B and Degree of Bachelor in Humanities, Social Sciences, Technology or Natural sciences.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student is able to:
- relate scientific perspectives to different practices
- develop, plan and evaluate new innovation ideas
- apply interactive and creative work and design methodology
- visualise innovation projects through sketches, models and prototypes
- identify and analyse complex phenomena and introduce new innovative ideas that can be developed and realised to the lasting benefit and value to a specific target group
- communicate the work on, and results of, innovation projects for clients, selected target groups and society
Course content, modules and examinations
The course is offered within OpenLab and is based on a multidisciplinary collaboration where students and faculty from Karoliska Institutet, the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University and Södertörn University work with clients from the City of Stockholm, Stockholm County Council and the County Administrative Board of Stockholm.
Students work on a project basis on design and organising innovation partnerships across different fields of knowledge with the aim of solving practical social issues.

The aim of the course is that students, along with external clients, are able to develop and evaluate new ideas for innovations that can be realised and create lasting benefit and value for a specific target group.
Students learn to use projects to identify, organise, design and evaluate work on innovation. Through knowledge and practice from different disciplines and scientific perspectives, students learn the idea and business development, user involvement, cooperation, and business planning. Students are also given the tools to implement an interactive and creative work process and design methodology to manage incomplete problems and make reasonable and independent assumptions.

Course design
The course consists of mandatory lectures and workshops within the selected development project.Examination format
- Attendance at lectures and the workshops within the selected development project
- Written and oral presentation of the innovation project
- Individual reflection report
The grading criteria are distributed prior to the start of a course or module.
If a student has a certificate from Södertörn University for compensatory support, the examiner has the right to decide on an adapted examination or alternative form of examination in accordance with Södertörn University's regulations.
Restrictions on accreditation
The course may not be accredited as part of a degree if the contents are partly or wholly the same as a course previously taken in Sweden or elsewhere.
