Bachelor's degree in the humanities, social science, technology or natural sciences, and at least 30 credits at Master's level in the humanities, social science, technology or natural sciences

- Describe different forms and principles for organisations’ sustainability accounting and communication
- Describe the growth of organisations’ sustainability accounting and communication

- Apply theories relevant to organisations’ sustainability accounting and communication
- Evaluate the relevance of different theories for describing, understanding and explaining phenomena related to organisations’ sustainability accounting and communication
- Produce and evaluate scientific texts relevant to organisations’ sustainability accounting and communication
- Analyse organisations’ sustainability accounting
Judgement and approach:
- Critically reflect upon the relationship between, on the one hand, sustainability accounting and communication and, on the other hand, organisations’ activities
- Critically reflect upon opportunities and difficulties associated with using sustainability accounting as a means for changing individual and organisational practices
- Identify and reflect upon different stakeholder perspectives on phenomena related to organisations’ sustainability accounting and communication
Course content, modules and examinations
The main focus of the course is the accounting and communication of organisations’ impacts on various aspects of sustainability. The course covers issues about the representation of operations, of accountability and communication between stakeholders, of organisation and internal change, and of circumstances that may influence the development of sustainability accounting and communication. The course also deals with standards and norms that guide organisations’ sustainability accounting and communication. The student becomes familiar with, applies and reflects upon theories, research and norms in this field, related to organisations in different sectors of society and in different countries.

Teaching consists of lectures, mandatory seminars and group and individual work.
Examination format
Participation in seminars

Written hand-in assignments
Absence from a seminar can, after instruction from the examiner, be compensated for through a written assignment.
The grading criteria are distributed prior to the start of a course or module.
If a student has a certificate from Södertörn University for compensatory support, the examiner has the right to decide on an adapted examination or alternative form of examination in accordance with Södertörn University's regulations.
Restrictions on accreditation
The course may not be accredited as part of a degree if the contents are partly or wholly the same as a course previously taken in Sweden or elsewhere.
