Entry requirements

Bachelor's degree in Arts, Social sciences, technology or science and 30 credits at the advanced level in in Arts, Social sciences, technology or science.

Learning outcomes

On completing the course, the student can:

Knowledge and understanding

  • use scientific perspectives on sustainable development to identify and analyse complex phenomena that impact sustainable development,
  • identify a variety of possible interventions for sustainable development and evaluate the consequences of those interventions,
  • understand relevance of different models for project and process leadership,

Competence and skills

  • based on their own analyses, identify relevant interventions that benefit sustainable development, and evaluate and communicate the consequences of those interventions,
  • in cooperation with other course participants and external organisations, develop, plan and evaluate projects that aim to contribute to sustainable development,
  • in cooperation with other course participants and external organisations, apply relevant techniques and instruments for project management to create innovative interventions for sustainable development,
  • communicate the process of implementation and its results to relevant stakeholders

Judgement and approach

  • understand and reflect on values that lay a foundation for individual and organisational behaviours and attitudes,
  • identify and challenge norms that determine the understanding of sustainable development.

Course content, modules and examinations

The course provides students with an opportunity, in cooperation with external actors, to apply knowledge about sustainable development, and reflect upon leadership and challenges for sustainable development. While working on their own projects, the students learn to identify, organise, design, evaluate and reflect upon innovative suggestions and interventions that contribute to sustainability. Students use tools to apply interactive and creative project methodology to manage difficult-to-define problems, and to make reasonable and independent assumptions. Themes and challenges for student projects are introduced by external actors. Students work in multidisciplinary project teams and are supervised by instructors.

Absence from individual seminars and workshops can be compensated for through written assignments, according to instructions from the examiner.

The grading criteria are distributed prior to the start of a course or module.

If a student has a certificate from Södertörn University for compensatory support, the examiner has the right to decide on an adapted examination or alternative form of examination in accordance with Södertörn University's regulations.

Restrictions on accreditation

The course may not be accredited as part of a degree if the contents are partly or wholly the same as a course previously taken in Sweden or elsewhere.
