Entry requirements

60 credits in Business Studies and the equivalent of English B. You also need: English 6 or the equivalent.

Learning outcomes

On completing the course, the student can:

  • Describe and reflect upon the development of sustainable investments using historical and contemporary research perspectives
  • Analyse and critically interpret relevant facts and phenomena from the perspective of sustainable investments
  • Value risks and returns for different types of sustainable investments
  • Identify possible reasons for, and consequences of, strategic sustainable investments

Course content, modules and examinations

The course provides deeper knowledge about sustainable investments, as well as an understanding for risks and returns in financial markets. The course also provides knowledge of sustainable investment models.

The course focuses on four key areas: (1) the historic development of sustainability issues from a financial research perspective, (2) the analysis of portfolios from a sustainability perspective, (3) an understanding of risk diversification, and (4) the valuation of short‑term and long‑term strategies for sustainable investments.

Course design

Teaching is in the form of lectures, workshops and seminars with hand‑in assignments. Hand‑in assignments are undertaken in small groups and individually.

Examination format

1001: Sustainable Investments, seminars

1002: Sustainable Investments, examination

  • In‑person examination

Absence from no more than one seminar can be compensated for with an assignment in accordance with the examiner’s instructions. The assignment must be equivalent, educationally and in scope, to the task being compensated for.

The grading criteria are distributed prior to the start of a course or module.

If a student has a certificate from Södertörn University for compensatory support, the examiner has the right to decide on an adapted examination or alternative form of examination in accordance with Södertörn University's regulations.

Restrictions on accreditation

The course may not be accredited as part of a degree if the contents are partly or wholly the same as a course previously taken in Sweden or elsewhere.
