My dissertation, defended in April 2024, focused on the image of Russia in Sweden. It examined how ideas about non-normative sexuality, such as perceptions of LGBTQ rights, activism, and queer culture, influence Swedish constructions of the image of Russia and the Swedish self-image.
From 2024 to 2027, I am a post-doc in the project "Navigating Anti-LGBTQ Politics and Homonationalism: Precarity and Social Support Structures Among Russian and Ugandan Queer Migrants in Sweden," which investigates the consequences of the politicization of LGBTQ issues for queer migrants. My focus is on how Russian migrants navigate conflicting politicizations of LGBTQ issues, particularly their social relationships, community, and support networks.
