My area of research lies at the intersection of environmental psychology and ecology and addresses the issues of human preferences in the outdoor natural environment. The PhD project aims to integrate several interdisciplinary theoretical and methodological approaches to study the complex relationships that exist between people and nature. The research focuses on assessing landscape aesthetic quality and identifying the biophysical features influencing aesthetic value. The empirical part involves the study of urban wetlands in Stockholm (Sweden) and Ljubljana (Slovenia). By analyzing the spatial structure of urban wetland landscapes and the biodiversity they harbour, the project aims to create the operational basis for ecologically oriented landscape aesthetics. This is foreseen to contribute to better urban wetland design by seeking predictable relationships between formal landscape features and aesthetic responses.
