I'm working on the philosophical legacy of Georgian philosopher Merab Mamardashvili, with a particular focus on the political potential of his thought. Mamardashvili's philosophy is generally understood as one that is primarily concerned with the becoming of the individual self which may be seen, according to some researchers, as standing in contrast to the idea of engaging in politics. I do not find this combination contradictory, and I'm trying to investigate the ways in which a subject-centered philosophy may be conceived as a political one. I believe that such a research may not only enrich understanding of the way philosophy may conceptualize the relations between an individual and the common but also illuminate the forms political engagement have taken in late Soviet context and may probably still take in these uncertain times.
