Patrik Åker is Associate Professor in Media and Communication Studies at Södertörn University. His research interests include visual communication, journalism, historical perspectives on the media, cultural assumptions about media technologies, and the relationships between media and spatiality.

He is currently heading the project “Photographic realism in the digital media age” (together with Liudmila Voronova), and has earlier been involved in projects about, among other, music use and digitization, and how the actual buildings for central media institutions express ideas about media’s role in society.
