Understanding the interplay between the environment and economic growth

Environmental economics has helped us to understand the impact of the environment on economic growth, and vice versa. This course will provide you with knowledge and understanding of this subject by examining and discussing topics such as environmental externalities and the theory of market failure, and the economics of pollution control. The latter includes consideration of efficient levels of environmental pollution, taxes, and tradable permits. The course also covers the economics of sustainable development, including the measurement of sustainable development and the effect of economic growth on the environment, as well as the valuation of environmental resources and the economics of international environmental problems and climate change, which includes analytical controversy among environmental economists and global agreements on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
