On this course, you will plan and complete an extensive research and writing project in English-language linguistics, literature or culture. You will develop your knowledge of how to research and write an academic essay through focused seminars and individual supervision, learning to construct an argument in a scholarly manner.

A scholarly essay in English-language linguistics, literature or culture On this 15-credit course, you will broaden your literary or linguistic knowledge and deepen your understanding and application of methods and theories for the scholarly study of language or literature. You will plan and complete an extensive research and writing project under the guidance of a supervisor, having chosen a topic within English-language linguistics, literature or culture. Your knowledge of how to research and write an academic essay is developed through focused seminars and individual supervision, so that you adopt a scholarly approach to formulating a problem, building an argument and relating this problem to other research in the subject area. Course design The course is taught through lectures, seminars and individual supervision; these are all conducted in English, so you improve your oral and written proficiency. The course literature is in English. Examination is based on your essay, the defence of your essay and your review of another student’s work.
