Historical development and linguistic concepts

The course builds upon your knowledge of English linguistics by introducing additional disciplines related to the formal structure of the language. You will learn basic terms and concepts in phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. The course also includes an overview of the historical development of the English language and its contact with other languages.

The course is taught through lectures and seminars, with about four contact hours per week. It is examined through attendance at the lectures and active participation in the seminars, as well as hand-in assignments and a written exam.
