A comprehensive skill-set for user-centred development

This Master’s programme focuses on user research, user experience and interaction design. During your studies you will gain skills in critical analysis and evaluation, method development, and learn about research processes within media technology, as well as how to apply advanced theoretical knowledge of interactive media, user experience, interaction design, user-centred development, and design theory in the analysis of complex problems related to media technology. Stakeholders and user groups are considered as part of the processes that are discussed during the programme, and you will examine ways of communicating and implementing your solutions, so that you develop professional-level proficiency in the use of tools and methods from media design and interaction design. The programme also covers aspects of ethics and the law, as well as equality, sustainability and societal benefit.

Interactive Media Design 15 credits, Design theory and methods 7,5 credits, User experience and user research I 7,5 credits

Semester 2

Critical design 7,5 credits, User experience and user research II 7,5 credits, Advanced project work 15 credits

Semester 3

Optional courses corresponding to 30 credits

Semester 4

Master’s dissertation in media technology 30 cred

Course design

The second year of the degree programme includes a number of optional courses, covering 30 credits in total. These courses can be taken at Södertörn University or elsewhere, either in Sweden or abroad, although they should be in Media Technology or otherwise connected to the contents of the programme. Throughout the programme, theoretical knowledge and practical skills are consistently applied and linked through practical projects. Courses in theory and method are integrated in an independent Master’s dissertation. You may also choose to graduate early, with a one-year Master’s degree, after completing 60 credits.
