Application information for freemover students

Sweden has a pooled admission system, so prospective students apply for courses and programmes at all Swedish higher education institutions through a single platform: www.universityadmissions.se. Please note that you must not send applications or any other documentation directly to Södertörn University unless you are an exchange student.

We recommend that all international students, particularly applicants from outside the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), and Switzerland, apply in the first admissions round so have the time to apply and receive the residence permit (if required), pay the tuition fees, find housing, etc.

The first admissions round for the autumn semester opens in mid-October and closes in mid-January. Non-EU/EEA students who require a residence permit will not have enough time to apply for and receive their visas and permits if they apply and are admitted in the second round.

The second admissions round, also known as the national round, is mainly intended for local students and those with an EU/EEA citizenship. For more information about important dates and deadlines for the first and second application rounds, please visit the University Admissions website External link, opens in new window..

Application and tuition fees for non-EU/EEA students

If you are from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland, you must pay an application fee for higher education in Sweden. This is the same for all Swedish higher education institutions and is SEK 900 (approximately, EUR 80/USD 94, as of July 2025). For more information about application fees, please visit www.universityadmissions.se External link, opens in new window..

You will probably also be required to pay tuition fees. However, not all third country (non-EU/EEA/Swiss) students are required to pay fees; information about whether you are exempt can be found at www.universityadmissions.se. Students who are in Sweden as part of an exchange agreement are exempt from application and tuition fees, regardless of nationality.

At Södertörn University, tuition fees are determined by the course or programme’s discipline. For the 2026/2027 academic year, tuition fees range from SEK 108,000 to SEK 162,000 (approximately EUR 9,600-14,500 or USD 11,300-17,000 based on July 2025 exchange rates). For programme-specific tuition details, please refer to the University Admissions page External link, opens in new window.

Please note that tuition fees do not include living expenses, such as accommodation, food, course literature, etc.
