About the cooperation

The KreativEU European Universities Alliance is a long-term and strategic cooperation between eleven higher education institutions in Europe, with the aim of creating competitive and attractive education in the multidisciplinary field of cultural heritage. This transnational cooperation focuses on cultural heritage’s role in issues relating to sustainability, integration, equality and digitalisation. It also aims to develop innovative models and strategies to address these issues based on the needs and conditions of the different regions. The ambition is to strengthen European cohesion and values by bringing together national and local cultural heritage, traditions and crafts, in order to promote the artistic and cultural diversity that connects European education, research, innovation and public services. KreativEU’s higher education institutions share the vision that cultural and artistic diversity drives cohesion, equality, sustainability and innovation. There is also cooperation with external partner organisations to jointly develop innovative solutions, knowledge transfer and exchange of ideas between different sectors of society.

What does this cooperation entail for Södertörn University?

The KreativEU alliance strengthens the university’s networks and promotes the development of partnerships that increase the university’s visibility and attraction power. This means increased opportunities for different types of collaborations and exchanges that contribute to new knowledge, new perspectives, experiences and contacts, as well as personal (skills) development. It is expected to contribute to organisational development and to improving the quality of education and research. Collaborations and exchanges can be physical, digital or hybrid, and involve students, doctoral students, teachers, researchers, technical-administrative staff and experts from associated partners.

European universities – facts and funding

European Universities are part of the European Commission’s vision of a single European Education Area, which means that European national borders should limit learning, studying and research.

The idea of European Universities is that they will raise the quality of higher education in Europe and contribute to inclusion and increased competitiveness. The initiative involves universities in European countries cooperating in specialised transdisciplinary alliances to deal with societal challenges and development issues. Students and employees can move freely between the universities within an alliance; students can tailor their education by taking courses from the different universities. The Erasmus+ programme provides students and employees with co-funding for exchange periods in the other countries.

The Swedish Council for Higher Education External link. is the national programme office for Erasmus+ in Sweden, and is responsible for providing information about Erasmus+. The European University Initiative is part of Erasmus+ and is administered by the European Commission External link. in Brussels.
