Deep concern for the rights of university students and staff in Iran

Södertörn University is deeply concerned about the current situation for students and staff at Iranian universities. We give our backing to the statement published by the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions.

Student protests are continuing in Iran, with international media reporting that Iranian security forces surrounded students at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, firing bullets and tear gas at them.

"The Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions is strongly committed to democratic and human rights including the right to free expression and non-violent protests. Current violations of these rights for university students and staff in Iran are deeply concerning."
