The course has a process-oriented approach to the governance of natural resources and sustainability transformation in a changing climate, from local and regional scales to global issues.

You will train how to evaluate the cumulative effects of humanity's environmental impact and the governance of natural environments. The course provides a deepened understanding of ongoing environmental and climate changes by studying patterns and processes in different landscapes, and by identifying, exploring and connecting conservation priorities and sustainability challenges, using local and global transformation perspectives.

You will analyse how ecological functions and mechanisms could be combined with anthropogenic processes for a sustainable societal transformation. This is illustrated using various examples, including “hope spots”, which are areas considered important for other parts of an ecosystem.
