Exploring the religious landscape of urban Sweden

Over the last 70 years, Sweden’s religious landscape has undergone major change and all major religions now have a presence in the country. This course examines historical developments and the contemporary expressions of these religions, with a particular emphasis on urban contexts. As part of the course, you will meet representatives of various religions and faith traditions and visit places of importance for people within these traditions, exploring the establishment and activities of different religious traditions in Sweden. You will learn how to use ethnographic theory and methodology as a way of studying and interpreting different aspects of religion as it is experienced within the Stockholm area, and to reflect on your own experiences of diverse environments relevant to the study of religion.
