EU-Law, Good Governance and Sustainability During the first semester the programme curriculum includes modules on European Law, Sustainability, Good Governance and Good Administration. The sustainability issues are taken from a broader perspective including inter alia human rights and artificial intelligence. The second semester is dedicated to a Master dissertation, which focuses on the influence of European Law and International Law on the national legal orders in the areas of Good Governance and Sustainability. Semester 1 Introduction to European Law, sustainability and good governance; Principles of good administration and good governance at the European level; Impacts of European law on the national level; Sustainability and European law Semester 2 Master dissertation Course design The programme includes lectures, guest lectures, seminars, and study visits, and has compulsory written and oral assignments, including seminar reports. Some of these assignments are on an individual basis, while others are done as a group. For the dissertation, there are individual and group supervisory seminars, and you will participate in the peer review of your own and others’ work.

This Master’s programme offers a strong foundation for pursuing advanced legal work, focusing on the Good Governance principles—such as transparency, accountability, respect for privacy, and sound administration—essential for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 16. You will engage with a wide range of legal sources, including legislative texts, case law, preparatory works, and scholarly doctrine, complemented by national, European, and international policy documents. The programme places strong emphasis on analytical reasoning and structured approaches, drawing from real-world cases and the application of legal methodology. It also highlights a comparative perspective, examining how various legal systems address challenges related to Good Governance and sustainability. Throughout the programme, you will develop the ability to articulate your views through written reports and discussions, as well as to present complex issues—such as the impact of European and international law on national legal systems in promoting Sustainability and Good Governance.
