Information for international offer holders
Admitted to an international Master’s programme starting in January 2025 at Södertörn University? Congratulations! This page has information that will help you on your journey to becoming one of our students in spring 2025.
Admission letter
Your admission letter is available as a printable PDF file on your page on universityadmissions.se. It is advisable to print out a copy, as you may need it for your residence permit application. Please take the time to read the admission letter carefully and contact your department if you have any questions.
Tuition fee payment
If you are a fee-paying student, information about this is included in your admission letter. Your department will send you an invoice and payment instructions and deadline information shortly after your notification of admission.
EU/EEA/Swiss students and holders of certain residence permits in Sweden are exempt from paying tuition fees.
Residence permits and visas
- EU/EEA nationals can move to Sweden without applying for a permit.
- Swiss nationals can move to Sweden to study, but you must apply for a residence permit if your stay exceeds 90 days.
- Non-EU/EEA students need to apply for a residence permit before their travel to Sweden.
If you need to apply for a residence permit, we recommend you first check with the nearest Swedish embassy or Swedish Migration Agency External link, opens in new window. regarding the processing times before you pay your tuition fee and proceed with your via/residence permit application, as there is a very limited time between the announcement of admission results and start of the programme in spring semester. We strongly advise all non-EU/EEA/Swiss applicants to apply to our international programmes starting in autumn instead.
Residence permit applications are processed by the Swedish Migration Agency – Migrationsverket www.migrationsverket.se External link, opens in new window..
Student accommodation
Södertörn University offers a limited number of student rooms to international fee-paying students. Please check the university’s website External link.for more information about the terms and conditions. If any questions, please contact accommodation@sh.se.
Non-fee-paying international students are advised to check online resources to arrange alternative housing. We recommend organising your accommodation prior to the start of the semester, as it may prove difficult to find a student apartment or room in Stockholm upon your arrival.
Webinars for offer holders
The International Office organises webinars for international students who are admitted through the international application round to programmes starting in autumn. Due to a limited number of international programmes starting in spring semester and a lower number of new international students, no webinars are organised in December/January. If you would like to access the recordings from previous webinars or book a time with an international officer or international student ambassadors, please contact international@sh.se.
Registration and your SH-Account
If you are not currently resident in Sweden, you will be able to activate your SH-Account, register for your courses and access SH-StudyWeb after arriving at the university. We will send you information about this before the start of the semester. Bring your passport or another form of identification that you can present at the university’s InfoCenter. Your department/school will send practical information, including your timetable, before the start of the semester.
Orientation Week
The spring semester starts on 20 January 2025. Please plan your arrival in Sweden so you can attend the Orientation Week on 21-25 January 2025. It provides newly admitted international students with the opportunity to meet other international students, learn about student life and practicalities in Stockholm, take a city tour and listen to practical advice about studying at Södertörn University.
