Student exchanges within KreativEU

Södertörn University is one of eleven European universities participating in the KreativEU European University alliance. Students can tailor their education using the courses and exchanges offered within KreativEU.

KreativEU (Knowledge & Creativity European University) provides opportunities for students to participate in exchanges and take courses at a partner institution in Portugal, Slovakia, Czechia, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Turkey, or Poland.

This cooperation also provides the opportunity for joint courses with students from Södertörn University and other KreativEU universities, which can include remote learning or on-site teaching at the various universities across Europe. This allows you to study at one of the partner universities without committing to a full exchange semester. Watch the video below about exchanges within KreativEU.

Short-term exchanges within KreativEU

Within KreativEU, you as a student can take part in short-term exchanges alongside your regular studies. Short-term exchanges can be the following formats:

Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP)
A Blended Intensive Programme is a short-term exchange where you, as a student, spend between 5 and 30 days at one of the partner universities. During the exchange, you take part in activities such as workshops, study visits or similar. The programme also includes a mandatory online component, which takes place before, during or after the physical exchange.

Summer School
A summer school is a short-term exchange that takes place during the summer at one of the partner universities. It offers you the opportunity to study abroad for a limited time without interrupting your regular semester schedule. Summer schools may include courses, project work or other academic activities.

Walking Seminar
A Walking Seminar is a short-term exchange where you, as a student, participate in field-based discussions at one of the partner universities. Walks and excursions are used as a method to explore and reflect on specific topics. These seminars often include field studies and conversations held outside the traditional classroom setting.

Hackathon
A hackathon is an intensive, short-term exchange where you work together with other students to develop ideas, solutions or prototypes within a specific theme. The exchange usually lasts between 24 and 72 hours and is often organised as a creative group project at one of the partner universities.

Information about available short-term exchanges is shared with students via Canvas.

To be eligible for a short-term exchange, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be registered as a student for the current semester at Södertörn University in Ladok
  • Have at least 22.5 ECTS credits from Södertörn University reported in Ladok by the application deadline
  • Be able to transfer the credits earned during the exchange once you come back from the exchange
  • Meet the language and grade requirements of the host institution
  • Follow the host institution's application process and ensure that the course fits into your study plan at Södertörn University. You must also make sure that you do not miss any mandatory teaching or examinations during the exchange. If you do miss mandatory components, you are responsible for finding a way to make them up
  • Complete an electronic survey after the exchange
  • Submit a Certificate of Attendance after completing the exchange

    Selection Process for Short-Term Exchanges
All students who meet the eligibility requirements for short-term exchanges are welcome to apply. Placement is determined by lottery.

To ensure a fair selection, applicants are divided into two groups:
  • Selection Group 1: Students who have not participated in a short-term exchange before. These students are given priority in the lottery
  • Selection Group 2: Students who have participated in a short-term exchange during the previous academic year. These students are included in the second round of the lottery

Once you have been accepted for a short-term exchane you can apply for an Erasmus scholarship for the part of the exchange that is spent abroad.

You will recieve further information about the process of applying for a scholarship once you have been accepted to a short-term exchange.

When you are participating in an exchange you have insurance cover for the entire exchange period. Södertörn University's students are insured through Kammarkollegiet. You can obtain an insurance certificate to carry with you during the exchange period.
