Theory and practice that are vital for democracy
Journalism is an interdisciplinary subject with a focus on media and communication. Practice and theory are intertwined in the subject at our department, depending on the particular program you are enrolled in. The practical elements of our Bachelor programs include writing, photography, film, radio and web production. The theoretical elements (especially regarding our Master program) comprise studies of the media’s role in society, media ethics, research and in-depth studies of society.
Both the subject of journalism and the profession have strong links to numerous current societal issues and are important to our democracy. During your studies (again, depending on the program you are taking), you will learn to, discuss ethics, conduct research into current societal issues, write reports, make audio journalism and much more besides. You can also express your linguistic and investigative creativity and, along with a critical approach and theoretical reasoning about the media’s role in society, you create a good balance and broad basis for future work, both as practicing journalist and in positions as media analysts.
Studying journalism suits you if you have a social conscience, want to reflect critically on society.
